A filling meal with an enjoyable but gentle flavor that our entire family enjoys is our version of the trending TikTok Chicken and Rice.
My kids are growing and really craving starches. Whether it’s eating our Chicken Parmesan Casserole over pasta or our Beef Consommé Rice they love simple foods with a light seasoning.
The variety of seasonings and plenty of minced garlic and garlic powder makes this basic recipe more dynamic.

Ingredients Needed
- Chicken Breasts – Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are our favorite, but any cut of chicken can be cooked, cubed and work well in this recipe.
- Olive Oil
- Rice – Your favorite type of white rice is fine, we typically have Jasmine or long grain in our cupboard.
- Chicken Bouillon – Knorr chicken bouillon powder is most popular, but we typically have a jar of Better Than Bouillon.
- Garlic – We use both minced garlic and garlic powder for maximum flavor.
- Seasoned Salt
- Heavy Whipping Cream
- Parmesan Cheese – Shredded or freshly shredding the cheese over the skillet is our favorite, but grated looks fine.
- Cajun Seasoning
- Italian Seasoning
- Onion Powder
- Sea Salt and Pepper
This recipe is heavy on seasoning just like our Chicken Bacon Ranch Mac and Cheese. Don’t be afraid to try a generous or heavy amount of seasoning to mix up the mealtime routine!
How To Make Creamy Chicken and Rice
There are three components to make this recipe. We like to start cooking the chicken first and then work on two steps at the same time until this meal is done.
When multitasking this recipe can be on the table in 30 minutes.
Cooking the Chicken
Cut chicken breasts in half the long ways or cut into thirds. Season generously with paprika, garlic powder and seasoned salt. Toss chicken using clean hands or tongs to coat evenly with seasonings.
In a skillet set to medium heat add olive oil. Arrange strips of chicken in a single layer and turn a few times until a digital meat thermometer inserted in the center of the largest pieces reads 165°F. Once cooked set aside on a cutting board.
Cooking The Rice
Using a dutch oven set to medium high heat add another tablespoon of olive oil, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Stir well.
Then add uncooked rice. Season with 2 to 3 tablespoons of Knorr chicken bouillon powder. Add water and stir well.
Once water begins to boil, turn heat down to low and cover the pot. Cook for 15 minutes.
This is a good time to cut up the other pieces of chicken into bite size pieces or smaller.
If necessary make chicken in two batches. We typically use a skillet that is large enough to cook an entire batch at once. If doubling the amount of meat we usually make two skillets full.
The Creamy White Sauce
Mix together heavy whipping cream, parmesan cheese, cajun seasoning, Italian seasoning and onion powder. Yes, we love garlic!
For the parmesan cheese, we like shredded cheese here. If we have a wedge in the fridge freshly shredding cheese into the warm cream creates a rich, heavenly flavor.
Add butter to the skillet and melt over medium heat. Then stir in more minced garlic if desired.
Pour in heavy whipping cream mixture and stir until gently boiling.
Stir the creamy sauce for a minute or two and then add small pieces of cooked chicken and stir until covered.
When rice is tender stir well to fluff. Spoon warm rice into a serving bowl and then spoon warm, creamy chicken over top. Or serve in a casserole dish that can be kept warm in the oven on low covered with foil.

Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Rinising the rice will help prevent the pot from boiling over, but does take a couple extra minutes of time and effort. We do not always rinse the rice, but notice the dish is a bit less starchy when we do.
- Red chili flakes can be added to the creamy sauce to add some heat if you like spicy food.
- Store leftovers in an airtight bag or container in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

- 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Instructions
Chicken
- Add olive oil to a skillet over medium high heat.1 tablespoons olive oil

Creamy Sauce
- Using the skillet the chicken was cooked in add butter. Begin to melt and stir in minced garlic.2 tablespoons butter, 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- Add heavy whipping cream and stir until cream begins to boil.1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
- Add Parmesan cheese, cajun and Italian seasonings and onion powder.1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, 1/2 teaspoon cajun seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
