Recipe For A Pumpkin Dump Cake
A dump cake, also known as a crunch cake, is a quick and easy dessert made by layering ingredients without very much mixing.
Inspired by our Sweet Potato Cobbler with Cake Mix, spices mix into pumpkin puree to create a pie like filling for the bottom layer. Sprinkle a box of yellow cake mix on top, then cover with thin slices of butter and bake. In ten minutes or less you’ve created a Pumpkin Dump Cake!
Reminiscent of our pumpkin pie cake recipe, but quicker and easier to make, this dump cake with pumpkin has similar flavors and tastes more like a fall cobbler. We enjoy how this pumpkin dessert adds variety to the Thanksgiving dessert table.

Ingredients Needed:
- Pumpkin Puree – a large can of pure pumpkin is 1 lb 18 oz
- Brown Sugar
- Granulated Sugar
- Butter
- Milk
- Spices – pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, vanilla extract
- Yellow Cake Mix

Adding 1/2 cup of chopped pecans adds another warm, crunchy flavor dimension to this pumpkin pie dump cake.
How To Make A Pumpkin Dump Dessert
In a large mixing bowl stir together a large can of pumpkin puree, brown sugar, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup of melted butter, milk, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon and vanilla together well.
Spread evenly over the bottom of a 9 x 13″ baking pan.

Sprinkle a box of yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the pumpkin and smooth out.
Slice remaining butter thin and cover nearly the entire top of the cake mix.

A few extra slices of butter may be needed to get the best coverage.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes in an oven preheated to 350℉ until the cake mix is golden brown across the entire top of the dump cake and baked through in the center.
Serve warm with a spoon and enjoy!

During baking, check for any visible dry cake mix. Spoon a little melted butter over those spots so they soften and brown as the cake finishes baking.
Keeping the top covered in butter will make or break the final quality of the cake.
