This shortcut recipe with refrigerated crescent dough is a fall favorite. A fun twist is that these dumplings are uniquely sweetened with Mountain Dew!
The tart Granny Smith apples are balanced by the soda pop to make a memorable and super easy fall dessert.
Our Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings recipe is a crowd pleaser that’s so easy to make just like our Crescent Roll Apple Pie and Churro Cheesecake Bars.
We also enjoy tart, green apples in our Apple Crisp with Peanut Butter and Caramel Apple Salad.
Ingredients Needed:
- Crescent Roll Dough – Pillsbury or store brand work fine, just keep it chilled until time to handle.
- Granny Smith Apples – Choose large, tart apples.
- Mountain Dew – Gives the sauce the dumplings bake in a little something special. Can substitute for Sprite or 7-Up if needed.
- Butter – makes the sauce rich, so go for the real dairy product instead of margarine.
- Granulated Sugar
- Vanilla Extract – enhances all of the other flavors.
- Cinnamon – adds that warm taste and creates a wonderful aroma while baking.

How To Make Apple Dumplings With Mountain Dew
Wash apples. Cut into 8 equally sized pieces and then peel each slice. Use an apple slicer to cut each one into equally sized pieces.
Using a clean work surface or silicone cutting board unroll one tube of crescent dough.
Separate into triangles. Wrap one slice of apple in each triangle piece of dough. Wrap the points around the apple so that it’s covered.
Arrange in a lightly greased 9 x 13″ baking dish.
Set a medium sized sauce pan on the stove top over medium heat.
Partially melt a stick of butter and then add vanilla extract and granulated sugar.
Stir often with a silicone spatula until the mixture comes to a gentle boil.
Then pour over top of apple slices wrapped in crescent dough.
Use the spatula to scrap the pan clean and get all of that buttery sauce into the baking dish.
Then pour 8 ounces, or about one can of Mountain Dew over top of this sauce.
Finally sprinkle with cinnamon before baking.
Bake uncovered in an oven preheated to 350℉ for 35 minutes.
Serve warm and enjoy with all of the extra sauce in the baking dish!
Recipe Tips and Tricks
- Keep crescent roll dough chilled until time to handle. If it sets out and gets warm it will tear more easily and be more difficult work with.
- Any type of tart, firm apple will work fine. Use a bigger slice that will hold up while the crescent dough bakes around it.
- At 30 minutes the edges will start to look brown, but keep baking an additional 5 to 10 minutes until the crescent dough in the center of the ban is flaky.
- This mountain dew dessert doesn’t taste much like the pop, so everyone can enjoy it!
