Turkey BLT

A cold deli sandwich or wrap that tastes great all year around is this easy Turkey BLT recipe. Add some mayo and Havarti cheese for the best version of a bacon, lettuce, tomato that you’ll eat!

Turkey BLT Recipe

A cold meat sandwich makes a simple lunch that is easy to pack. Whether we want to pack an easy lunch for the kids to take to school or to take along to work or a picnic this is one of our favorite options.

After making Turkey in a Roaster Oven at Thanksgiving or Christmas we always have lots of leftovers and this is a delicious way to use some of those.

My husband always gets the Roasted Turkey Avocado BLT at Panera. So we analyzed that sandwich to make the easiest version at home. The key to making the best sandwich is beginning with a delicious bread or wrap and using high quality meat and ingredients.

We prefer using thin slices of tomatoes, meat and cheese so there is a little bit of each flavor in every bite. Using thick slices can make any one particular flavor dominate which can take away from overall enjoyment.

The Panera sandwich has avocado, which we like to add at home if we have one. If we want to pack a lunch avocado will turn brown over time, so we often leave that out.

What is The Best Type of Turkey?

Oven roasted turkey deli meat or lunch meat is most popular because of the mild flavoring that pairs well with cheese and smoke flavored bacon. A medium thickness of the slice of turkey is best in this recipe to allow multiple flavors to blend.

Honey roasted turkey is also a great option for people who like a sweeter sandwich.

Mesquite turkey typically has more of a kick that won’t play quite as well with all of the other flavors in the sandwich.

What is the Best Type of Mayonnaise?

The standard plain mayonnaise is the safe way to make wraps for a group.

When you know the preferences of those eating the wraps it is great to use flavored mayo.

Bacon Mayo has a smokey flavor and really brings out the flavor of turkey and enhances the meat flavor

Dill Mayo really brings out the tomato flavor, so you taste more of a garden and veggie combo than the meat.

Tips & Shortcuts

  • Using precooked bacon saves time and provides thinner slicers
  • Precooked bacon crumbles can work well in a wrap, but will fall out of a sandwich easier
  • Thin slices of tomato allow more flavors to meld together in each bite
  • Thin slices of avocado may be added as well, but avocado will begin to brown after a couple hours which can make prepping ahead a bit more difficult
  • Use bacon mayo to enhance the meat flavors or dill mayo to feature the tomato flavor in the wrap.
  • Add another slice of turkey to the top before rolling up to add more protein to the meal

How to Make Turkey BLTs

Spread about 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on a high quality wrap or slices of bread.

Add two slices of turkey with as even of coverage of the wrap or bread as possible.

Repeat with the cheese.

Then alternate strips of bacon and tomatoes. Be careful not to overfill the wrap with tomatoes.

Sprinkle lettuce evenly over the top and roll-up. Hold in place with a toothpick or wrap tightly in foil.

Slice in pieces of the desired size and hold each one with a toothpick. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator or with ice packs in a lunch box until ready to use!

A cold deli sandwich or wrap that tastes great all year around is this easy Turkey BLT recipe. Add some mayo and Havarti cheese for the best version of a bacon, lettuce, tomato that you'll eat!

Ingredients
  

  • 3 wraps we prefer 8" whole grain
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1/2 pound oven roasted turkey sliced medium thickness
  • 6 ounces Havarti cheese
  • 1/2 cup tomatoes sliced thin and cut in strips
  • 9 thin slices of bacon
  • 3/4 cup romaine lettuce coarsely chopped

Instructions
 

  • Spread 1 tablespoon of mayo on each wrap.
  • Add 2 large slices of turkey and 2 to 3 slices of cheese to each wrap.
  • Add slices of bacon and slices of tomato.
  • Sprinkle lettuce evenly over the top. Roll tortilla so that bacon stays horizontal with the direction you are rolling.
  • Use a toothpick to hold closed and slice into desired lengths. Enjoy!
