Our family loves this sweet Farmhouse Pumpkin Spice Bread that has a pound of pureed pumpkin to help keep each slice extra moist!
This recipe is super easy to make and can be mixed up in one bowl. The spices blend so gently with the pumpkin to make every bite delicious. Spread real butter on a warm slice of bread for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a great snack!
Easy Pumpkin Bread
We love quick breads which we define as breads that can be mixed up in 10 minutes or less, in one bowl and pop them in the oven. No rising and no kneading because quick breads are yeast free.
Our classic Carrot Bread recipe has been so popular on Pinterest that I knew I needed to share the similar and delicious Pumpkin Bread that is also a favorite on our farmhouse table!
The longer we stay at home here in the spring of 2020 the more homemade quick breads we are making. I really enjoy Blueberry Muffins Farmhouse Style and the kids crave Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins with Applesauce and Chocolate Chip Banana Bars. See the theme there with the kids and chocolate?
Both of my kids love helping making yeastless breads because all you have to do is measure the ingredients properly and make sure they are stirred together well. Making homemade bread is a great family activity and we love being rewarded for our work with a delicious slice of warm bread with a pat of butter melting all over it.
Using canned pumpkin is the only way that we make homemade pumpkin bread because it’s just so easy. We also like the ingredients are shelf-stable, so this is a great bread to make as some of our fresh fruits and veggies run out when we are trying to make as few trips to the grocery store as possible. Another favorite recipe that calls for canned pumpkin is our Pumpkin Cookies with Cream Cheese Icing.
A couple other favorite recipes to satisfy a pumpkin craving are our 4 Ingredient Pumpkin Fluff and Pecan Pumpkin Bars with Cream Cheese Frosting.
How To Make Moist Pumpkin Bread
- In a mixing bowl mix sugar, oil and eggs.
- Add pureed pumpkin and mix well.
- Add dry ingredients and ensure the baking soda and other spices are mixed into the dough very evenly.
- Add water and stir until just mixed.
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Pour batter into two 9 x 5 inch loaf pans that have been greased and floured to help prevent the bread from sticking during the removal process.
- Bake for 1 hour until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
What Can I Add to Pumpkin Bread?
Nuts are the most popular add-in for pumpkin bread. Chocolate chips are another popular option. Dried cranberries, bananas or chopped apples are all options to change up the flavors in pumpkin bread. When mixing in other fruit ingredients I would decrease many of the spices except for cinnamon to allow the natural fruit flavors to shine.
While we love a warm pat of butter, softened cream cheese can be spread on pumpkin bread for a rich and unique treat that is so delicious!
How Do You Keep Pumpkin Bread Moist?
The amount of moisture in the pumpkin should help keep the pumpkin bread very moist throughout the baking process. The bread can remain uncovered while cooling, but as soon as the bread is cooled be sure to store it in an airtight bag or container to maximize quality.
Storing in the refrigerator can help keep bread moist and flavorful for up to 5 days. Regardless of whether it’s stored on the counter or in the refrigerator pumpkin bread may start to taste stale after 5 days.
How Long is Pumpkin Bread Good For?
Store the pumpkin bread that you might eat in 1 – 2 days on the counter in an airtight bag or container. When you want the bread to last longer store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Due to the high level of moisture in the bread this can decrease shelf life at room temperature, so storing in the refrigerator or freezer are the safest options to keep pumpkin bread fresh.
Can Pumpkin Bread Be Frozen?
Yes! Once cooled, pumpkin bread can be wrapped in plastic wrap and then placed inside of a self-sealing bag or airtight freezer container. Pumpkin spice bread should be used within three months for best results.

This recipe is absolutely delicious!!! Just made 2 loaves (and LOVE that the recipe makes 2) and it’s full of flavor and tastes like Fall! Instead of the 2/3 cups water I used apple cider. I especially like the short, concise wording!!! So many recipes use many more words than needed and I end up rewriting them – this was not the case with your recipe! Loved the pumpkin bread and love your site!
