Sweet strawberries pureed to make homemade strawberry popsicles is one of the most refreshing summer treats we enjoy! This easy popsicle recipe can be mixed up in 5 minutes to make a simple, but flavor-filled frozen treat.
Strawberry Popsicles
This is a great healthy dessert recipe for kids to make! All you need is a blender and a few simple ingredients to make a homemade popsicle that tastes like it came from a popsicle stand.
Since we’re not getting out nearly as much this year as in the past we enjoy creating special treats at home.
Last year my son made these yogurt based Fruit and Honey Frozen Yogurt Popsicles. We’ve also made bananas into a cool treat with these Chocolate Dipped Banana Lollipops.
When I heard a special guest on the local news channel share their professional popsicle recipe that they make to sell at fairs and festivals I knew we had to try it at home! I’m so glad we did because my kids LOVE making treats and this popsicle is so fruity, light and refreshing it’s perfect for super hot and humid days.
Homemade Strawberry Popsicle
Pouring five simple ingredients into the blender creates a puree that is the base for homemade strawberry popsicles. This recipe creates about four cups of the strawberry mixture which makes about 10 popsicles.
We have 8 popsicle holders that easily hold about 3 cups of the pureed strawberry mixture. The size of popsicle holders varies quite a bit. I like to freeze any extra in paper cups or small bowls. Just take care that the mixture won’t be disturbed and spilled in the first few hours of freezing.
If a popsicle is too cold to bite into, place it in a bowl and allow to thaw slightly. The popsicle can be chopped up with a spoon to create a slush, like Pink Slush Punch. A nice cool slush can hit the spot just as much a popsicle. There are so many options when you’ve got a delicious base like this!
Another recipe that we love using fresh strawberries in is our TikTok Strawberry Cream Cinnamon Rolls.
Ingredients Needed To Make Strawberry Popsicles
- Fresh strawberries
- Water
- Fresh lemon juice
- Cane sugar
- Pinch of salt
Can Frozen Strawberries Be Used?
Fresh strawberries are easier to use because they tend to be slighly easier for the blender to chop up and blend with other ingredients.
If frozen strawberries are used allow them to thaw at least slightly and blend closer to five minutes to ensure the popsicle puree is smooth and well mixed.
Tips and Tricks
- This recipe makes 10 popsicles
- Ripe or slightly overripe strawberries work perfectly in this recipe
- Rotten or moldy strawberries should not be used
- Pinch of salt makes puree smoother so it’s not like a giant ice cube
- The faster the mixture freezes the smoother the popsicles will be
- The juice from one lemon is about 4 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
- Cane sugar helps sweeten the popsicles without making them too sweet, it can be substituted for granulated sugar if necessary
- A banana can be added but the number of strawberries used should be reduced in volume equal to the banana. Keep a higher ratio of strawberries than bananas to make a strawberry banana popsicle.
- The amount of strawberries can be decreased slightly and replaced by other fruit like blueberries, mango, or pineapple.
- Run bottom of popsicles under hot water to help remove them from holders without pulling handle out of popsicles
How to Make Strawberry Popsicles
- Wash strawberries and remove stems.
- Add all ingredients to the blender and blend until very smooth and no pieces of strawberries are visible. I like to blend a little longer just to make sure the puree is as evenly mixed as possible.
- Pour into popsicle molds, small paper cups, ice cube trays or other desired container. Place in a level spot in the freezer where they will not be moved or spilled for a least a few hours. Popsicles should be frozen in 4 – 6 hours and ready to enjoy!
