Ingredients Needed

  • Ham – we like finely diced pieces for the best blending and most even flavoring.
  • Swiss Cheese – pairs so nicely with ham, but cheddar works great too.
  • Cream of Onion Soup – the original calls for cream of mushroom, but we prefer the more mild, pleasing flavors in onion or chicken condensed soup.
  • Egg Noodles – dry, wide egg noodles work best in this recipe.
  • Onion – sweet onion is our favorite, yellow is fine too.
  • Sour Cream and Butter – add a richness and balance to each bite.
Ingredients to make a ham and noodle casserole are egg noodles, cream of onion soup, ham, onion, butter, Swiss cheese and sour cream on a wooden counter top.

How To Make Ham and Cheese Casserole with Noodles

Set a large skillet over medium high heat. Melt butter and saute onions until lightly browned.

Turn off the heat or turn to low. You can begin to warm the other ingredients, but don’t want to overheat the sour cream.

Add cream of onion soup and sour cream. Stir well.

Then add half of the cheese and half of the ham. Stir well.

Layer half of the noodles in the bottom of a 2 1/2 quart casserole dish.

Spread half of the cream mixture, cheese and ham over top. This can be mixed together or spread in layers.

Then add remaining noodles, creamy mixture, cheese and ham in layers. We like to finish with cheese and ham on top for the best eye appeal.

Cover with a tightly fitting glass lid or aluminum foil and bake in an oven preheated to 350℉ until the casserole is warmed all the way through.
