Sausage and Cream Cheese Dip

We love sausage and cheese so putting them together in a dip is just logical.  With only six ingredients this dip can be mixed up in ten minutes.  Simple ingredients complement each other well to create a robust flavor profile.

As I looked through a community cookbook from western Ohio made in the early 2000’s and found this enhanced version of our family’s more basic Fiesta Sausage Dip I knew we had to make it.

The first time I made this recipe our family enjoyed it as a light lunch and snacks for watching a football game.  Served along with our Cheesecake Dip for Fruit we love the casual snacking!

There was plenty of each recipe to share with friends who just had a baby too.  We all love it!

Crock Pot Sausage and Cheese Dip

Rich, creamy and savory flavors come together to create a slow cooker sausage and cheese dip that will create clean plates every time!

The combination of cream cheese, cheddar, and mozzarella makes the BEST cheesy sausage dip.

Italian sausage has my favorite seasonings with a little bit of kick to add to the cheese.  Mild or hot sausage could easily be used.  Same with the salsa.  This recipe is easy to add some heat or keep it very mild.

We like the flavor of a pork sausage, but chicken or turkey sausage can easily be used.  With all of these substitutions, the ability to personalize the flavors are endless.

To speed up the dip cream cheese can be melted in the skillet with browned and drained sausage.

Our 4.5 Quart Crock Pot works well for this recipe.  We have one with a hinged lid that is especially convenient for parties.  This is the same slow cooker we use to make Easy Buffalo Chicken DipCrock Pot Buffalo Bacon Cauliflower and Easy Low Carb Cauliflower Casserole.

How to Make Sausage Dip with Cream Cheese

  1. Brown, drain and crumble sausage
  2. Spray crock with non-stick cooking spray or use a non-stick liner.
  3. Pour salsa in crock pot and add blocks of cream cheese in a single layer.
  4. Cover with remaining ingredients.
  5. Turn slow cooker on low and stir every twenty minutes until cheeses are melted.
  6. Turn to keep warm and continue to stir often.

Tips For Making Cheesy Sausage Dip

  • Stir ingredients frequently while crock pot is on to prevent cheese from sticking to edges or burning
  • Choose your preferred heat of sausage and salsa to make dip spicier or mild
  • To prepare dip quicker melt cream cheese in skillet with cooled and drained sausage before adding to crock pot
  • Serve with tortilla chips
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days and reheat well

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound Italian sausage browned, crumbled and drained
  • 2 (8 ounces each) packages cream cheese
  • 16 ounce jar salsa
  • 15 ounce can kidney beans
  • 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 8 ounces shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions
 

  • Brown sausage and drain.
  • Spray crock with non-stick cooking spray or use a non-stick liner. Pour salsa in crock pot
  • Add blocks of cream cheese. Cover with remaining ingredients.
  • Turn on low and stir every twenty minutes until cheeses are melted.
  • Turn to keep warm and continue to stir often.
