Pizza Sticks

Pizza might be the most popular kid food in our circle of friends, so I thought creating an easy new way to enjoy pizza would get the kids involved in the kitchen. Easy recipes are the only kind we have time for these days.

We are celebrating the state fair at home this year by making some fun fair foods! Since a fair food tradition is eating food on a stick, enjoying sticks of pizza just makes sense! The kids like this recipe as a snack, but we’ve eaten it for a meal before too.

These pizza sticks are just like our Triscuit Pizza and Pizza Fondue. They also make a great after school snack or finger food at a tailgate. Pizza sticks can be made in the air fryer or oven.

If you followed along with our recipes you know that we LOVE pizza in our family. These “Pizza Ditties” got me through college. The kids could live on Pizza Spaghetti Casserole and this Pizza Pasta Bake.

My all-time favorite fair food is Stromboli, so of course we have an easy version to make at home. I got the inspiration to add flavoring to these pizzas on a stick from the Stromboli too!

Whether you actually put a wooden stick inside the cheese stick to enjoy pizza on a stick or just wrap the cheese and pepperoni up to make pizza sticks kids and adults enjoy this snack!

The kids prefer to let the sticks cool off and set- up a bit more. This makes them stay on the stick easier. But I love enjoying the melty cheese dipped in warm sauce right away.

Ingredients Needed to Make Pizza Sticks

  • Mozzarella cheese sticks
  • Pepperoni – we prefer the larger sandwich size pieces
  • Roll of thin refrigerated pizza dough
  • Pizza sauce or marina sauce for dipping
  • Vegetable oil
  • Grated parmesan cheese
  • Garlic powder
  • Oregano

Tips for Making Pizza on a Stick

  • Keeping dough cold as long as possible makes it easier to work with
  • We prefer thin pizza dough as it cooks more quickly than a regular or thicker dough
  • We push wooden skewers about 2 inches into cheese sticks.
  • If cheese is visible through the pizza dough it will ooze out as it melts during baking, this is not a problem because it still tastes great
  • Pizzas stay on stick better once they’ve cooled and set up a bit
  • Refrigerated crescent dough can be used as well. The sheet will work the same way as pizza dough, the crescent rolls will need to have the seams pinched together
  • Ensure sticks do not stick off the edge of the baking sheet as they could poke in the blades of a convection oven and cause big problems, or just not fit in the oven
  • Brush dough on pizza sticks with a beaten egg white for a more uniform browning if desired – we usually skip this step to save time

How to Make Pizza on a Stick

  1. Mix together vegetable oil, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder and oregano in a small bowl and set aside.
  2. Unwrap sticks of cheese and place each stick of cheese on a wooden skewer.
  3. Lightly grease large baking sheet and unroll pizza dough. Fold in half to save time cutting strips, folding also helps makes the strips more uniform. Using clean kitchen shears cut 8 equal strips of pizza dough.
  4. Lay strips out flat and brush with oil and spice mixture. Doing just 2 – 3 at a time is easiest for me.
  5. Lay two large pepperonis on one end of each stick and then roll the dough around the mozzarella sticks.

6. Arrange so that pizza sticks are not touching and the wooden sticks do not hang off of the baking sheet.

7. Bake in a 375°F oven for about 8 – 10 minutes until sticks are lightly browned and pizza dough is baked through.

8. Serve with pizza sauce or marinara and enjoy!

I was looking for some recipes to experiment for a good concession stand food and I come across your recipe and your site. Well last night we decided that we were going to experiment and try your recipe, we revamped it a little bit to our liking but it was a big hit. everything we tried was the biggest hit, everybody loved it.

We’re not big fans of pepperoni inour family so I used Canadian bacon and we put a little bit of sauce on the crust instead of the oil and seasonings and on a few of them we added a few pieces of pineapple. We continued with putting the cheese stick on the stick then we wrapped the cheese stick with a saucy strip of dough and Canadian bacon and pineapple, 13 to 15 minutes to Golden Brown. Then we let him set on the counter for about 5 minutes or so for the cheese to set back around the stick and it was a Big hit.
We also tried the stromboli pizza recipe. We experimented with different toppings and 3 different types of crust, Including a dessert one they were a bigger hit.
THANK you for sharing and I will be looking for more recipes to try.
