Making Pizza on a Stick is a fun and easy recipe the kids can help make. Begin with a mozzarella cheese stick wrapped in pepperoni then refrigerated pizza dough and bake. Dip in marinara sauce for a simple new pizza recipe!
In a small dish mix together oil and spice ingredients.
On a lightly greased baking sheet fold pizza dough in half and cut into 8 strips. Unfold a couple strips at a time and using a silicone brush apply oil and spice mixture.
Place two large pepperonis along one end of each strip. Lay cheese stick at a 45 degree angle on the first pepperoni and wrap dough around cheese stick to create a criss cross pattern.
Repeat until 8 pizza sticks have been made. Then bake in a 375°F oven for 10 minutes until dough is lightly golden brown and baked through.
Serve with pizza sauce or marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
Keeping dough cold as long as possible makes it easier to work with
We prefer thin pizza dough as it cooks more quickly than a regular or thicker dough
We push wooden skewers about 2 inches into cheese sticks.
If cheese is visible through the pizza dough it will ooze out as it melts during baking, this is not a problem because it still tastes great
Pizzas stay on stick better once they've cooled and set up a bit
Refrigerated crescent dough can be used as well. The sheet will work the same way as pizza dough, the crescent rolls will need to have the seams pinched together
Ensure sticks do not stick off the edge of the baking sheet as they could poke in the blades of a convection oven and cause big problems, or just not fit in the oven
Brush dough on pizza sticks with a beaten egg white for a more uniform browning if desired - we usually skip this step to save time
