If you are looking for an easy ground beef recipe that is different than traditional sloppy joes this Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe Sliders recipe is for you!

Hawaiian slider rolls covered in cooked ground beef, chopped vegetables and a light gravy covered in cheese with a butter and garlic glaze make the BEST sloppy joe’s our family has made.

Hamburger Hawaiian Roll Sliders

We enjoy easy recipes that mix vegetables with ground beef to make a complete meal with as few dirty dishes as possible. These sliders are a good mix of ground beef, green peppers, mushrooms and onions in a light gravy that are enhanced with a sprinkling of Italian cheese. For a more basic mix of mushrooms and beef try our Mushroom Swiss Burger Sliders.

We have several slider recipes that have been popular on Pinterest like our Turkey, Cheddar and Bacon Sliders, Ham, Swiss and Ranch Party Sliders, Roast Beef Sliders and BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders. After creating slider recipes that our family and so many other people love we took our Instant Pot Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes and converted it into a slider.

Slider buns give you the option to serve as a finger food snack or appetizer or eat a few as a meal. Our family prefers smaller buns because it’s so much easier to handle. The kids also seem to eat sliders better than a big sandwich.

Planning Family Meals

Ground beef is a staple in our meal rotation from our Bacon Cheeseburger Pie, Cowboy Baked Beans, One Pot Goulash or Best Taco Meatloaf. As farmers, we raise our own beef, so we always have hamburger in the freezer.

We love roasting mushrooms, peppers and onions, so when the cutting board and knife are out we find it easiest to cut veggies for multiple meals throughout the week. When the best laid plans don’t work out we pull out some frozen chopped onions and peppers or a meal starter kit with vegetables that work well in this recipe.

I love that this recipe can easily be doubled or tripled and portions frozen for future meals.

This recipe is also very versatile. The gravy packet could easily be left out to create low-carb and keto Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes. This meal would be excellent served with some extra cheese over riced cauliflower or with our Crock Pot Keto Cauliflower Casserole or Easy Low-Carb Loaded Cauliflower Casserole.

Our traditional Crock Pot Sloppy Joes with cheddar cheese would also be absolutely delicious on sliders!

Time Saving Tips

  • Use frozen pre-chopped onions, peppers or meal starter vegetable kits to save time
  • We like mushroom or onion gravy flavored packets, but a dry packet of brown gravy will work fine if neither of those is available
  • Make a big batch of meat and vegetables and freeze leftovers (without a bun or slider roll) for up to 3 months
  • Philly cheesesteak sloppy joes can be made in the Instant Pot if desired
  • A  long bread knife makes slicing the sliders in half easiest
  • Green pepper can be substituted for any color of pepper
  • Mozzarella cheese can be substituted for an Italian blend
  • These sliders taste best fresh out of the oven, but we do reheat them on occasion if there are leftovers
  • Slider glaze can be sweetened by adding a tablespoon or two of brown sugar if desired

How to Make Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe Sliders

  1. Slice slider rolls in half with a long bread knife or a serrated knife working in a circle around the outside.
  2. Spread a tablespoon of softened butter on each half of the rolls and brown in a 350°F oven for 3 – 5 minutes.
  3. Brown ground beef in a skillet and drain well.
  4. Return ground beef to skillet, add vegetables, gravy packet and water and cook until tender. I typically add 1/2 cup of water and stir well before determining if the remaining 1/4 cup of water needs added.
  5. Spread meat and vegetable mixture over buttered and browned slider rolls. Make sure meat gets spread evenly to the edges and then sprinkle cheese over all of the meat and vegetable mixture. Place top half of rolls on sliders.
  6. Make glaze by melting remaining butter and stirring in seasonings. Spoon over sliders and bake for 5 – 10 minutes until cheese is melted and top of rolls are lightly browned.
  7. Serve immediately for best results!
