White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies

Two of my favorite cookie recipes of all time are my Best Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe and The Best Dark Chocolate and Oatmeal Cookies.  Mixing milk chocolate and white chocolate chips along with the silky dough makes the first recipe irresistible!  And I love the oatmeal in the second chocolate chip cookie recipe.  My kids have been snacking on dried cranberries all of the time and all I’ve wanted to do is add cranberries into some cookies!

So, I tested several variations of my favorite cookie recipes with both chocolate and white chocolate chips, oatmeal AND cranberries.  This new Loaded White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal Cookie is a real winner!

I had so many variations of this recipe I finally narrowed them down and took samples to a county Farm Bureau board meeting.  The cookies with milk chocolate chips were chosen first, but once people tried the cookie with the white chocolate chips most people liked those better!  It’s funny how I tend to gravitate to more traditional chocolate chip cookies, but I often enjoy the more complex taste of a white chocolate chip cookie.

The white chocolate chips can easily be substituted for chocolate chips.  As the weather cools off and the holidays approach maybe we’ll prefer milk chocolate chips.  Either way, I can definitely picture our family enjoying these warm cookies with a glass of milk during the holidays!

The old-fashioned or rolled oats give the cookie more structure and flavor that is so delicious!  Aren’t we supposed to eat more whole grains?  Well, I’m pretty sure these are whole oats or whole grains!

Our family doesn’t grow oats on our farm anymore, but a century ago oats were important crops on many farms.  Oats were needed to feed horses before farmers had tractors.  I love that I can just put oats directly in recipes like this.  And even better we can take these oatmeal cookies with us for a snack while we do work in much easier ways in a tractor as opposed to walking behind horses.  My grandpa was known to tell some people that the best day of his life was the day the last horse left the farm.  I don’t think he disliked horses, I think it was the hard work alongside horses that was exhausting.  So, thank goodness for modern-day technology that makes life at home and on the farm easier!
