Easy Apple Dessert Idea

This apple flip is a sweet dessert, but it’s not nearly as sweet as apple strudel or apple pie.  We really enjoy this dessert because it has more of a fruit flavor than overwhelmingly sweet flavor.  And the Farmhouse Apple Flip is PERFECT when served warm along with vanilla ice cream!

The ingredients are so simple.  As the cinnamon, sugar, butter and graham cracker crumbs bake together with the apples the aroma is almost as good as the dessert!

Once taken out of the oven the dessert can be spooned out and flipped upside down next to some vanilla ice cream.  The ultimate would be serving with our Old Fashioned Farmhouse Vanilla Ice Cream, but store-bought tastes great oo!

Or simply spoon out and leave the apples on the bottom as you eat.  The taste is the same, so the name on this vintage recipe is very intriguing.

We love picking apples in the fall!  We enjoy eating apples for on the go healthy snacks, making applesauce and delicious apple desserts like this one.  Apples pack a natural sweetness that we crave.

This apple flip recipe has been in our family for years, but these pictures were taken the first time I made it.  The original recipe called for sliced apple rounds like a nice apple peeler does.

I decided it would be quicker to peel and slice the apples by hand, but the next time we make this recipe I will get out our apple peeler because it’s just more fun to use!  However you slice your apples, just make sure they are thin.

How to Make Farmhouse Apple Flip

  1. Peel apples and cut into thin slices or core and cut into very thin rounds.
  2. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  3. Place a layer of apples in bottom of buttered 9×13′ dish.
  4. Mix sugar and cinnamon.  Sprinkle with graham cracker crumbs and sugar mixture.
  5. Cut butter into very thin pats and arrange over top of dish.
  6. Bake for 35 to 50 minutes until apples are browned.  Serve warm with ice cream.
