Creamy Crock Pot Potatoes

Easy Creamy Crock Pot Potatoes are a great complement to almost any meal.  Creamy potatoes have nice mild, yet gourmet flavor with a hint of onion and cheese.  We love making easy crock pot potatoes for family meals or potlucks.

Gourmet Potatoes

Our family of farmers loves to eat meat and potatoes.  Since potatoes are common in our meal rotation we always enjoy trying new recipe ideas.  Some of our favorite potato recipes are Twice Baked Potato Casserole, Farmhouse Loaded Potatoes and this Easy Cheesy Potato Casserole.

We like the lighter flavors of this easy creamy slow cooker potato recipes to mix up our meals.  Our toddler enjoys potatoes because they are soft and easy to chew.  So this recipe is great for family meals.  My husband and I eat leftovers for lunch and we love that this recipe reheats well!

I’ve shared that 4-H was a huge part of my childhood.  This recipe was adapted from a 4-H contest that I participated in.  The name given to the original recipe is Gourmet Potatoes.  These potatoes definitely have an upscale taste on a budget.  That’s what we call winning!

How to Remove Potato Skins or Jackets

  1. Score the potato in a ring around the center skin deep
  2. Bring pot of water to a boil and add potatoes
  3. Prepare a bowl of cold water that will hold all of the potatoes
  4. Remove the potatoes from boiling water and place in the cold water when they are tender all the way through
  5. Once potatoes are cool to touch use fingers to remove the skins

Tips for Making Creamy Slow Cooker Potatoes

  • Boil potatoes and remove jackets or use Yukon Gold potatoes that don’t need to be peeled
  • Cut boiled potatoes into evenly sized square pieces
  • Potatoes can be stirred in crock pot once or twice to prevent burning
  • Potatoes re-heat well

How to Make Creamy Crock Pot Potatoes

  1. Boil potatoes until tender and remove jackets, unless using Yukon Gold
  2. Place other ingredients in a saucepan on medium heat.  Stir until well blended and warmed.
  3. Place potatoes in the crock and pour creamy mixture over potatoes.
  4. Slice a couple of tablespoons of butter in a layer over the top of the mixture.
  5. Cook on low for three hours.  Stir once or twice if needed.

Ingredients

  • 8 – 10 medium potatoes
  • 1 can cheddar cheese soup
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup onions
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • parsley flakes for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Cook potatoes, cool, remove jackets and cut up in square pieces.
  • In sauce pan, place other ingredients; soup, butter, sour cream and onions. Cook over medium heat and stir until blended.
  • Pour over potatoes in crock pot and cut 2 tablespoons of butter into slices to lay on top of potato mixture. Cook on low setting for 3 hours.
