Homemade bbq sauce tastes great with several of our favorite meals! Since it only takes 20 minutes to make, we love keeping a jar of vinegar-based Farmhouse BBQ Sauce in our refrigerator.
Vinegar BBQ Sauce
Sweet and tangy with a little bit of kick, this red Farmhouse BBQ Sauce recipe is VERY easy to make at home! With only six simple ingredients and 15 minutes, you can have a batch of homemade sauce.
This vinegar based bbq sauce seems to go better with red meat or darker cuts of chicken or turkey. Having a little fat in the meat pairs well with a drizzle of this sauce.
A small saucepan will quickly make a small batch of sauce that will feed 6 – 10 people. This Farmhouse BBQ Sauce recipe can easily be doubled for a bigger batch. Just be ready to stir frequently to prevent burning.
BBQ sauce is one of the featured ingredients on a Pulled Pork Slider or BBQ Kielbasa Sandwich. And a light drizzle adds another delicious layer of flavor to many of our lunchmeat sliders like Turkey, Bacon, Cheddar Sliders.
Ground beef can taste so much better with a little tang from this sauce. Mushroom Swiss Burger Sliders. I’m a big fan of replacing ketchup with this bbq sauce in our Bacon Cheeseburger Meatloaves.
While it’s most common for us to serve BBQ sauce on a sandwich or with a pile of meat don’t discount how much flavor this sauce adds to a Loaded Baked Potato Bar, Loaded Waffle Fries or Pulled Pork Quesadillas.
Homemade BBQ Sauce
I like how easy it is to customize this recipe. Brown sugar can be added to make a sweeter sauce with a darker, deeper red color. Just 1/4 cup of sugar will make a big change in the meal.
My husband likes the heat from a few red pepper flakes. When you take a sample the sauce seems like it will be hot, but a little bit of heat from red pepper compliments meat when just a little sauce is drizzled on. Meat will noticeably tone down the heat in sauce.
This sauce is made without mustard but certainly reminds me of a Carolina style sauce that is vinegar and mustard-based. It’s a sauce that is made more for drizzling on meat than fully dunking meat into.
With the biggest proportion of the sauce being vinegar-based this sauce is fairly thin. It is definitely thinner than ketchup because vinegar is thinner than ketchup. While stirring often and cooking the sauce longer will help it thicken a little bit know that it is still intended to be a thin sauce.
Another sauce we like to make at home is our Homemade Instant Pot Spaghetti Sauce. When we have the time homemade sauce adds a special touch to so many meals.
