Ingredients Needed

  • Crescent Roll Dough – Two tubes of refrigerated dough.
  • Ground Beef – We prefer a lean blend that’s at least 85% lean.
  • Taco Seasoning – Use a packet, but decrease the water to 1/3 of a cup.
  • Cheddar Cheese – Shredded cheddar or Mexican cheese is divided and sprinkled on the meat as well as served with the lettuce in the center of the crescent taco ring.
  • Toppings – Shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, chopped green onions, sliced black olives, cubes or slices of avocado, more cheese and a squeeze tube of sour cream for convenience.
Ingredients to make a taco ring are cooked ground beef, taco seasoning, cheddar cheese, avocado slices, two tubes of crescent roll dough, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream and sliced olives on a wooden counter top.

How To Make A Taco Ring

Cook ground beef over medium high heat and use a meat masher to separate while cooking. Drain any excess drippings.

Return skillet to medium heat and add 1/3 cup of water and packet of taco seasoning. Using less water than a packet recommends works best in our crescent roll taco ring recipe.

Stir until taco seasoning is mixed well and water is evaporated.

Water and taco seasoning packet added to a skillet with cooked ground beef.

Use cold dough and separate into triangles. The wider end of the triangles will form the center of the ring in the center of a pizza pan.

Using a round pan serves as a guide and makes it easier to form a ring.

Overlapping the wide base of triangular shapes of crescent dough to form a circle in the center with the smaller tips pointing out.

The thinner, pointed ends of the dough will point out – almost like rays of sunshine radiating out. The wider side of the triangles will overlap slightly to form a slight curve that forms the center circle.

Carefully spoon cooked meat on the thickest part of the crescent roll dough.

Triangles of crescent roll dough laid in a circle with taco meat covering the wide part of the dough in a ring shape.

Sprinkle one cup of cheese on top of the warm meat.

Gently pick up each point, one at a time and wrap in the center. Tuck the end of the point under and pinch to seal closed.

Then bake in an oven preheated to 350℉ for 30 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and baked through.

Serving Tips

We like to prep the lettuce, tomatoes, avocados and any other toppings while the taco ring bakes.

While the ring is still warm fill the center with the toppings everyone in the family will enjoy. We serve sour cream and avocado on the side because not everyone eats those.

Add the chopped veggies to the center. Set on the table and slice with a pizza cutter.

Enjoy!

Recipe Tips and Tricks

  • Keep dough as COLD as possible until the second you are ready to use. Dough that warms up becomes more tacky, stretch and tear easily and gets progressively more difficult to work with.
  • Overlap dough evenly while forming the center of the circle as the overlapped portions will take the longest to cook through.
  • Cover baking pan with foil and coat with non-stick spray for easier clean-up.
  • Store leftover fresh veggies separate from the cooked crescent taco ring. The ring reheats fine in the microwave or air fryer.
