Why I Love This Bubble Up Pizza Casserole Recipe

Sausage has so much more flavor than ground beef, making this meal more flexible, budget friendly and tasty.

I first made this Sausage Pizza Casserole when my kids were really young and a half pan was perfect. When I made it again for a growing 10-year-old son who needs quick snacks and bigger portions a full pan made just the right amount.

What You’ll Love:

  • Made with ingredients that have a long shelf life or can be frozen, making it an easy, practical meal to keep on hand.
  • Freezes well in individual portions, so it’s simple to reheat quick meals.
  • Easy to customize—my husband likes adding mushrooms, onions, and peppers, and I can easily split the pan to keep everyone happy.
  • Shared with me by my mother-in-law, making it a tried-and-true family recipe.

A couple other easy casseroles that our family enjoys are Easy Mexican Noodle Casserole and Hamburger and Noodle Casserole .

9 x 13 baking dish with cheesy bubble up pizza casserole

How to Make Bubble Up Pizza

Preheat oven to 400°F. Brown and drain sausage. Return sausage to skillet and stir in pizza sauce.

Cut up refrigerated biscuits into 6 to 8 pieces each and sprinkle in the bottom of a lightly greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish.

Pour meat and pizza sauce mixture over top of the unbaked biscuits. Bake for 20 minutes.

Remove from the oven and mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top. Bake an additional 5 to 10 minutes until biscuits are baked and cheese is melted.

If cheese is melted, but the biscuits still need to bake cover with foil and bake another 5 to 10 minutes.

Serve warm and enjoy!
