- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger
- 3/4 cup butter softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg unbeaten
- 1/4 cup molasses
Sift together 2 cups all purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves and 1/2 teaspoon ginger.
In a mixing bowl blend 3/4 cup butter, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 egg and 1/4 cup molasses.
Slowly add dry ingredients to butter mixture. Mix well.
Shape dough into balls the size of walnuts, dip one half lightly in additional sugar.
Place on greased baking sheet with sugar side up and lightly flatten with the bottom of a glass.
Bake at 375°F for 10 - 12 minutes.
