Cube Steak with Gravy

Cube steak is covered generously with brown mushroom gravy and cooked until tender in the oven or crock pot is delicious! This is one of the easy family meals that my mom has made for decades.

Ingredients

  • 4 cube steaks
  • 10 3/4 ounce can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 package dry onion soup
  • 1 package brown gravy mix 3/4 to 7/8 ounce package
  • 1 soup can water

Instructions

  • Place cube steaks in a casserole dish or crock pot so they do not overlap.
  • Combine soup, 1 soup can water, onion soup mix and gravy mix.
  • Pour over meat, cover tightly and bake in the oven at 325°F for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours OR cook in the slow cooker on low for 3 to 4 1/2 hours.

Notes

  • Keep covered tightly to hold in moisture while cooking
  • Put cube steaks in a single layer in the baking dish or crock pot
  • Cube steaks can be substituted for round steaks or any kind of steak
  • Brown gravy mix can be substituted for mushroom gravy mix, or recipe can be doubled and one packet of each used
  • Dry onion soup mix can be substituted for onion flakes
  • Gravy recipe can be doubled for gravy lovers
