Sloppy Jane Sandwiches

Our Sloppy Jane recipe is a healthy cross between chili and Sloppy Joes that makes great sandwiches.  This is a hearty sandwich is made with ground turkey or ground chicken so it is lighter and lower in calories.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup onion chopped
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 8 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns, buttered and toasted

Instructions

  • Heat oil over medium heat in a large skillet.  Add the onion and stir often until softened; about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the turkey.  Use spoon or spatula to break up into small pieces and cook for about 5 minutes until the meat is no longer pink.
  • Add the remaining ingredients, reduce heat to low and cook until the flavors are blended, about 10 minutes.
