The Best Dark Chocolate and Oatmeal Cookies

Are you craving warm cookies and milk?  These cookies are the best dark chocolate and oatmeal cookies I’ve had! I love the fullness the oatmeal adds and the touch of sweetness from the dark chocolate.

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 10 ounce bag dark chocolate chips


  • Mix shortening, sugar and eggs.  Beat until creamy.  
  • Add flour, salt, baking soda and vanilla. Mix well.
  • Add oats and chocolate chips.  
  • Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 8-10 minutes.
