Chocolate Spice Cake

Homemade cake with mild spices and cocoa in a bundt pan drizzled with white icing makes a beautiful Chocolate Spice Cake.

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla


  • Grease well a bundt or tube pan. Preheat oven to 375°F
  • Cream shortening with sugar then add cocoa and egg. Mix well.
  • Sift the flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt together.
  • Add dry mixture to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
  • Add vanilla and mix well.
  • Bake 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes. Place a serving plate or tray on top of pan. Carefully flip over, so cake site on tray and remove bundt pan.
