Old Fashioned Fudge Meltaways Recipe
Firmer on the outside with a chocolate center that just melts away these cookies inspired the modern chocolate meltaway candy.
My husband’s grandma graced our family with so many precious things. A faith that lasted nearly a century here on earth and continues to live on through her family. A love of family, farming, cooking and grandkids and so much more. Among the few earthly treasures, she left behind are a huge collection of recipes.
This old fashioned recipe was originally shared by Better Crocker. This combination of a bar cookie and bites of fudge are so delicious because of the combinations of chocolate with graham crackers and coconut. We made this recipe twice right away and couldn’t stop eating these cookies!
Fudge Meltaway Cookies are in the same community cookbook as this Pineapple Marshmallow Dessert and Glazed Rum Cake.
A couple of her best slow cooker recipes are Crock Pot Stew Meat and Mushrooms in Wine Sauce and Farmhouse Crock Pot Spaghetti.
I made a batch of these to take along and share with a group of friends. My family enjoyed another batch and I look forward to making these unique bar cookies at Christmas and for other potlucks throughout the year.
Friends observed that the coconut and graham cracker flavors really stood out and make this dessert memorable. I don’t make too many recipes with squares on chocolate, but it seems to be the old-fashioned recipes that feature them.

- Melt chocolate over low heat in a saucepan and stir regularly to prevent burning
