Working Mom

Yep, I'm a mom who works full-time while trying to feed my family and teach my kids important things about life.

To add to all of the excitement my husband is a farmer.  I try to share stories about how we've grown up on farms that are similar but different.  Here is a comparison of large and small farms.  Big farms aren't necessarily bad farms.

As farmers we work hard to grow food and feel very connected to all that is invested in that work.  Sometimes we share our perspective on hot topics in food and farming.

My husband grew up on a turkey farm and now our kids spend their summers raising animals through 4-H.

Life on a Turkey Farm

by Jennifer @ Plowing Through Life

turkey brooder barn or starter house

The highlight of my year has been marrying Joe, aka the turkey farmer. He grew up in western Ohio where he often helped his mom in their turkey starter house.  His dad worked off the farm until Joe was about 14.  Part of his dad transitioning to full-time farming was taking care of turkeys in…

by Jennifer @ Plowing Through Life

welding gate

I was asked a good question yesterday, “How do some farmers seem to barely scrape by and some seem to be rich and have all kinds of fancy toys?” Of course this is a very complex question. I’ll work to share some of the variables in as simple of a way as possible. I think…

A Pig’s Tail – Another Perspective

by Jennifer @ Plowing Through Life

old barn wood removal

You know what makes me uncomfortable?  Cities, parking garages, elevators and continuous impervious surfaces.   I bet I’ve only hailed a cab a couple times in my life.  If I had to do it tomorrow I know that I would be nervous. Was the world created for large sections to be covered in in concrete, steel…

Discernment in Advertising

by Jennifer @ Plowing Through Life

I was invited to an adjacent school district in 2010 for the first time to be one of eight to ten speakers sharing a 40 minute presentation eight times throughout the day on food.  Each speaker reaches most of the eighth graders.  The school requires all eighth graders to read Omnivore’s Dilemma by Michael Pollan,…
